PT & E Scholar Athlete Wins Amazing Kid Award

Anyone who has met the 7th grader Leilani knows that she is special, so it came as no surprise when she was selected as Vancouver’s “Amazing Kid” by Pamplin Media Group.

On Monday May 8th she was one of 28 students from the Portland area recognized as an “Amazing Kid” for their academic and community service accomplishments. The students, along with their families and some educators, gathered at OMSI for a celebratory luncheon to listen to inspiring presentations, celebrate their accomplishments and hear an address from former Trail Blazer Brian Grant, founder of the Brian Grant Foundation.

"It feels nice — just knowing they all impact the community as I do," Said Leilani, who is a 4.0 student at Gaiser Middle School and has been with PT&E for the past 5 years. She has a younger brother who is also a scholar athlete with the program and they along with their mother Celina, who works as a coach tutor at PT&E,  make the journey across the Columbia every day to study, learn and play at the St. John’s Racquet Center. Leilani plays guitar, clarinet, bassoon, drums and piano and is a mentor for many of the younger scholar athletes at PT&E.

We are very proud of her and congratulate her on winning this well deserved award!
