Throughout the school year students from Jesuit High Schools have been volunteering at our after school program as a part of the “Portland Junior Scientist Program” (PSJ). Each Wednesday these volunteers lead the Scholar Athletes in our Elephant and Chimps classrooms through science experiments, teaching complex scientific ideas in an engaging and easy to understand way.
Last week was the culmination of the PSJ program and we hosted our very own science fair to celebrate a year of hard work. Our Scholar Athletes worked in teams, guided by the PSJ volunteers, to design and run their very own science experiments. It was a challenging and rewarding experience for our students who spent 3 weeks preparing for this event.
We are very thankful for the time and dedication of our volunteers from Jesuit High School. Each week our Scholar Athletes eagerly anticipated their time with “the scientists” and were thrilled to get to do hands-on science experiments. Thank you Jesuit volunteers and we look forward to continuing the program next year!
